How it works
Our home inspection services start with a detailed walkthrough. This may take several hours, depending on the size of the home or the number of units. We will take detailed notes and photos to assess the state of the property and identify any glaring issues we find. This can help you save thousands of dollars in repairs.
In addition to looking for potential structural issues in the home, we also examine all its major systems, including plumbing, electrical, heating and cooling, water, and sewer systems. Our reports are extremely detailed. Final reports can contain checklists, summaries, photographs, and notes about our findings on the property. After receiving the report, how you respond is up to you.
Our Story
Owner Derek Mienkwic founded Apex Inspections in 2016 in Kailua, Oahu. With a construction background spanning over 30 years in residential and light commercial projects, Derek brings extensive experience to his role as a home inspector serving Hawaii and Michigan.
Growing up in a family where construction and real estate were constant topics, Derek developed a deep-seated passion for the industry from an early age. Derek's journey into home inspection was a natural progression, shaped by years spent repairing and renovating homes. In 2016, he earned the Certified Professional Inspector (CPI) designation from InterNachi. He has long been committed to being an expert in the field.
Originally from Michigan, Derek began his career in the trades as a teenager. He later pursued studies in construction management while honing his skills in carpentry and handyman work. His journey led him to Colorado, where he expanded his expertise in sustainable building and renewable energies, contributing to high-quality construction projects. In 2010, Derek was invited to visit an old friend in Hawaii, where the area quickly captured Derek's heart. It has become his home ever since. Over the years, Derek has worked closely with numerous families. He started as a contractor and eventually transitioned into a trusted home inspector.
Derek and his wife, Kelly, are proud parents to their three children, Jack (4), Maya (5), and Violet (7). They prioritize hard work, integrity, and enjoying life as a family. They share a love for nature, often exploring mountains and oceans, reveling in the beauty of their island home. Kelly, born in Maine and a Marine Corps veteran, brings her talents as a paralegal and fitness coach to their shared ventures. The couple eventually moved to Michigan which marked a new chapter, where Derek immersed himself in the vibrant community of St. Clair Shores, actively networking with investors and contractors. Achieving his Residential Builders license in 2018, Derek became deeply involved in the Metro Detroit real estate scene, overseeing a wide range of projects.
Fast-forward to today, the couple has proudly owned Apex Inspections for 8 years and has worked with thousands of satisfied clients. Derek and Kelly continue to expand their real estate portfolio, driven by their passion for investing and community involvement. Through Apex Inspections, they are committed to delivering the highest-quality home inspection services available. They prioritize transparency and client satisfaction so that every property transaction is well-informed and confidently executed.
